I am very grateful to Business Post and Cónal Thomas in particular for the opportunity to write this op-ed in today's paper. When it comes to any infrastructure the key point for decision makers to understand is that large projects both satisfy and create demand. Whether it's road, rail, electricity or water they have a major influence on how our country develops.
The Shannon pipeline may be needed, but we have to guard against the continuation of Dublin-centric economic growth policy. The Government has committed to growing the regions at twice the rate of the capital so let's make it happen. The Midwest Region with Limerick City at its heart can become the counterbalance to Dublin dominance.
