King’s Island Flood Relief Scheme is an opportunity for an integrated approach to flood defence, social integration and improved connectivity

Brian Leddin TD welcomed the recently announced issuing of tender to commence the King’s Island Flood Relief Scheme. The project has the potential to be transformative for King’s Island  in terms of building resilience against flooding while at the same time creating an amenity for the local community.

The main components of the King’s Island Flood Relief Scheme include the construction of a 2,200-metre earthen flood embankment, which will be 2.5 metres in height. This embankment will serve as a flood defence measure and will also have a 3-metre-wide footpath and cycleway with public lighting at the top, promoting active travel and improving connectivity.
