Many of us, I'm sure, are readers of Michael Viney's column in the Irish Times for many years, perhaps even decades. Today's is his last column after nearly a half century of imparting his wisdom on matters of ecology and nature to the country. I am very honoured to have got a mention, with Malcolm Noonan, in the column just a few weeks ago, in one of his final contributions. Here is an article from the early 80's, heralding the advent of our Green party in Ireland. We can only guess at the influence on our world of people like Viney, but I'm certain it's both positive and immense.
