Brian Leddin TD welcomed the announcement of much improved bus services on the Limerick - Shannon - Ennis corridor.
Deputy Leddin said: "There will be a bus every 20 minutes at peak times (6am to 9 am and 3pm to 6 pm) between the city and Shannon. It will take 45 to 55 minutes and it will operate 24 hours every day. This is a huge scaling up of services, and will give workers, holiday makers, business travellers and many others an option to leave the car at home when working in Shannon or travelling from the airport. Having a good public transport connection between the airport and the city also increases the region's attractiveness for further investment."
A new route 316 will connect Sixmilebridge with Shannon Airport from next Monday.
Deputy Leddin notes that the coordination with train services arriving at Sixmilebridge could be improved and calls on the National Transport Authority to make this change.
"If a train arrives at Sixmilebridge there should be a bus connection to Shannon within 10 or 15 minutes. That isn't the case with this new bus service. It would make Shannon much more attractive to people from all over the country if this is addressed."
