Back in June of this year the Taoiseach requested the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment and Climate Action to examine the Citizen's Assembly Report on Biodiversity Loss, which had been recently published. As chair of the Committee it fell to me to lead this process. We were given strict instructions to complete our work by Christmas. I am very happy with the outcome. The report, which we published on time last Thursday, represents a political consensus on the way forward with respect to biodiversity loss, nature restoration and land use. There are 86 recommendations for Government contained in the report, which should be progressed as soon as practicable.
