The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) hosted their annual Pre-Budget Showcase Event last Wednesday, 18th September. The event presents an opportunity for politicians to engage with young constituents, local champions, and youth workers and discuss the critical need for investment in youth work.
NYCI’s proposals for Budget 2025 are focusing on a €15m increase in youth work investment, including essential funding for targeted and universal youth work, capital funding restoration, and support for youth information services.
Limerick TD Brian Leddin met with local champions from Limerick, youth workers and NYCI representatives who impressed upon him the importance of investing into youth work and enabling young people to achieve their full potential.
"I fully support the National Youth Council of Ireland’s call for increased investment in youth work as part of Budget 2025. The incredible work they do is vital to ensuring young people across our communities have the support, opportunities, and guidance they need to thrive. Investing in youth services is not only an investment in our young people but in the future of our society."
Deputy Leddin also welcomed the new National Strategy for Youth Work and Related Services 2024-2028: Opportunities for Youth. This new national strategy on youth work and related services provides a clear vision, strategic objectives, and priority actions to guide a collective approach to developing youth work services over the coming years.
