In this article in the Limerick Post Irish Rail say they are planning on building a new platform in Limerick Junction which will enable direct Limerick to Cork trains by 2030.

Presumably this will coincide with the double tracking of the line from Limerick Colbert to Limerick Junction, which has been on the cards for a number of years. When the double tracking is done it will be possible to have a local commuter service stopping at new stations in Ballysimon and re-opened, old stations at Dromkeen, Pallasgreen and Oola.
