LNG and Ireland's Energy Security

The crisis in the Middle East is making a mockery of the Irish government's plans for LNG as an energy security solution. At best it's a very expensive one as anyone reading reports of the spike in wholesale gas prices can see. Note that LNG can't be stored for very long. It has to be constantly topped up as it loses up to 0.05 to 0.1% of its volume per day. In other words you don't get to buy it when the price is cheap and then store it for when you need it. It is economic recklessness to make it a pillar of energy security.

This, of course, is on top of the fact that it is much worse than conventional natural gas as a cause of climate change. I did an explainer on that a few years back which you can read here.
